Charlotte asked for a pool for her baby doll because she wanted to give her swimming lessons. We found something suitable, and I said she should place it in the bathtub, so that she wouldn’t have to worry about water splashing out. That turned into her getting her swimsuit on and putting one on Winnie and both of them getting in the pool with their babies. They helped their babies swim, took turns swimming in the baby pool, let them jump off the diving board, and took them down the slide. Overall, it seemed like everyone really enjoyed their day at the pool, and it was so much easier than taking anyone to the actual pool.
Maybe it’s because I’m at the end of this pregnancy, and they are aware that there will be another human competing for each other’s attention, but I have noticed a growing kinship between Winnie and Charlotte. I know it’s partly also because Winnie is more and more able to play on a level that is developmentally more compatible with Charlotte. I love watching their sisterhood take root, and it will be beyond interesting to see how everything changes once the little one arrives.
