Portrait of Play, Week 30

This summer was a blur of activity and motion. The girls and I spent our days with lots of different kids, kids who are actually family and kids who have become like family. The days were long and chaotic at times, but at other times they were sweet and memorable. The trampoline was an exciting and entertaining perk that was enjoyed by all. Winnie possibly enjoyed it the most. She loved crawling up into the trampoline and bouncing and being bounced while I cringed as I watched her body crumple beneath her as she took spill upon spill. She’d be laughing through it all. The bigger kids adjusted their jumping to keep Winnie safe and played trampoline games. My favorite was, “Dead Man, Dead Man Come Alive.” It might take me awhile to feel alive again after this summer, but my kids are going to be so bored when they wake up and have to wait until the school is out for the day to be able to play with their friends.
