The girls brought all their instruments out onto the deck and decided they were going to be a band. They lined them up and tried them out, and then Charlotte had to go get the ukulele, which of course brought on a fight about who would get to play it. Chuck has decided she wants to be a singer when she grows up, which probably has more to do with the fact that her cousin currently wants to be one than her blossoming diva self. Singing has been a recent interest, and she has been making up songs, copying jingles she hears, and working on her stage presence. Even Winnie often gets out the microphone and pretends to be Grace Vanderwaal as she does her best to sing, “I’m trying, I’m trying” mixed in with a “Rum pum pum” from The Little Drummer Boy. While she was singing, Charlotte explained that each time she twirled she was changing her dress…and then she decided to actually have a costume change and brought out an old flower girl dress of mine that my grandmother made. She put it on and practiced her twirls some more while Winnie took over the microphone. I grew up playing music and singing with my sisters, and I do want to make it more of a point to bring it into our home. But, as someone who had a diva for an older sister, I may have to make Chuck take it down a notch or so. Although maybe I shouldn’t, because who knows, maybe she’ll grow up to be a singer like my older sister.
