Portrait of Play, Week 50

PortraitofPlay2016W50-50

Holy smokes. Week 50. I’m barely hanging on to the end of this year. I sort of feel like I’m spinning around on a Swurfer of my own, but with a lot less glee on my face. This energy they have. I need it. Some sunshine would help as well. At least it’s been warm enough to play for hours outdoors, even if we have to make our own snow to play with.

I always learn more of the cousin’s secrets when I watch them play. They have made up 3 different Swurfer games. The Marble Track, Skate Park, and Spiral Attack. They get to choose two each turn. One person always waits on the stack of wood in the back while the other goes. Sometimes they eat leaves off of the tree in the back and pretend they are firecrackers (which makes sense because they often pretend to be dragons). The games my cousins and I played growing up were some of the best moments of my childhood. I sure hope these guys look back at these times they spend together fondly and that the magnolia tree grows fast enough to keep up with their need to climb.

    1. My cousins continue to be such important people to me. I love that dress of hers too…it used to be her aunts when she was a girl. Vintage dresses are my favorite.
