Portrait of Play, Week 33

Our friend Tim was in town this weekend, so it meant good food and good times with good friends. Tim was making dinner on the grill, so we were all hanging out on the deck. Charlotte got out the sidewalk chalk, and since I wasn’t any help with dinner, I got out the camera. While Winnie went up and down the step on the deck, Charlotte practiced writing her name. Winnie spent some time taking out the pieces of sidewalk chalk and putting them back into the container and was especially fascinated and frustrated by getting the chalk into the chalk holder. Chuck was lugging Winnie around trying to put her on the hammock. Winnie didn’t seem to mind, although maybe she was harboring some aggression as she tried to bite Charlotte later. Charlotte has gotten pretty good at holding Winnie’s head back to keep from getting bit, and I’m hoping that her calm responses to it will move the phase along quickly. I grabbed Winnie from Charlotte and put her on the hammock with me, and we did her favorite song, “The Itsy Bitsy Spider.” I’m savoring these last summer nights and these sisters in sailor dresses (that my sister and sister-in-law wore when they were little girls). What a great weekend relaxing with friends, and obviously, dinner was delicious.
